Intellectual Absolute Zero Project
I had Matthew Arucan and Hali'a Ventura in my group for the project. Matthew and I worked well together, but Hali'a didn't contribute at all to the project. We instead had to do her work for her as well as our own work. We were able to easily choose a zine topic, find who would work on what, and come up with and agree with ideas between each other. We worked well when it can to the Stirling Engine because we would do our parts, but still be able to help each other. I think I could improve on including struggling group members, and putting more effort into other group members.
I learned how to connect different products to others as well as history or the modern world and society around us. I was also able to learn about totalitarian governments, how to create zines, and our specific regime Nazi Germany. I had to do in depth research about our zine topic, Drug Legalization, and make sure I checked both sides of the story and didn't just get biased opinions as my only evidence and research. I had to use Humanities thinking while researching (written communication), presenting (oral communication, engagement in topic), exhibiting (oral communication, presentation skills), and research (check good sources, digging deep to find information, watching bias).
I learned about Thermodynamics, phase changes, the Electromagnetic Spectrum, and how to connect the Physics to other products. We learned about the different waves and lights in the Spectrum and where they can be found in our everyday life. I used my Physics thinking when coming up with abstract ideas and problem solving when we hit bumps in the road for our zine or presentation.
I learned how to build a stirling engine, how to apply physics to engineering and how to connect the stirling engine to other subjects during the project. I also used and learned different skills such as problem solving, perseverance, determination, and focus. I used Engineering thinking when problem solving, creating something new, and making sure I was doing the right steps to get to where I wanted to be. I also used the physics behind the engineering when presenting at exhibition.
I feel like I did my part and was proud of my work, which doesn't always happen. I contributed a fair amount and worked hard. I didn't slack when I needed to do work and spent time both in school and at home to complete it. I would grade myself an A+ for this project because I worked hard and consistently, completed all of my work, collaborated with my group members well, came up with ideas, presented well in both the reports and the presentation, and was able to do in depth research and therefore create an in depth zine. I am strong in oral communication and work ethic and feel I could be stronger in collaboration when it comes to including other group members. Although some are not willing to work, I think I could do a better job of trusting them to do their work and giving them a bit more of the pie to complete instead of baby tasks.
